Red Hot Krispy Treats

I'm not usually a big fan of Red Hots. I'm kind of a wuss in that way.  But I do love them in other treats. If you've never tried putting them in ice cream for example, I totally recommend it.  When they're combined with other ingredients they mellow out and transform into something perfectly sweet and cinnamony.  Plus something about Valentine's day always makes me want to play with Red Hots.

That's normal right?  To want to set things on fire round about Valentine's day?

Just kidding.  ;)

Red Hot Krispy Treats
-6 cups Rice Krispies
-4 Tbsp butter

-1/2 cup powdered red hots (I put about 3/4 cup red hots in my food processor and pulse until powdered, and then measure out 1/2 cup)
-6 cups fresh marshmallows, heaping
-1 tsp vanilla
-1/4 cup crushed red hots (just place 1/3 cup or so in a Ziploc bag and whack with a rolling pin until they're roughly 1/4 their regular size. You don't want to powder these, just break them into smaller chunks so they're easier to eat.  Measure out 1/4 cup.)

Pour the Rice Krispies into a large (read: huge) greased bowl and set aside.

Melt the butter and powdered red hots in a saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until just melted. Remove pan from heat and stir in vanilla, and 1/4 cup crushed red hots.

Pour mixture over the Rice Krispies, and stir lightly, with a greased spoon, to combine.

Scoop into a greased 8x8 pan, and press lightly into pan with greased hands.  Allow to cool completely before cutting.
