I just found out that hats are not allowed at my son's elementary school next year.
Booo.
I thought that was the great part about having a boy? You know, them being all low-maintenance and everything. Slapping a hat on them and sending them out the door.
Umm, do they even realize what a huge inconvenience this is? This will probably add an additional minute and forty five seconds to my morning routine. Where am I supposed to find that kind of time?
Will there be a complimentary breakfast served at school to make up for the time I will have to take away from toast-making or orange juice pouring in order to style his hair appropriately?
Starving children typically don't do well in school.
Don't they know that??
It's so hard to be a mom these days.
Sarcasm aside, remember the layered drinks craze of last summer? For Valentine's day I came up with a cute ombre version to make my kids. So pretty and soo yummy. The trick of course, is layering these drinks in the right order.
Check the label on the back of the drink and look at the sugar content. The highest amount of sugar is the drink that should go on the bottom. The lowest will go on top. Do not use drinks that contain the same or similar amounts of sugar or they will just mix together like regular drinks. For really defined layers, choose sugar contents that are pretty drastic.
Happy Valentine's Week!
Wish me luck with all this hair-doing I'm going to be doing. I should probably start practicing!
Valentine's Ombre Drinks
-Light pink: Pink lemonade Hog Wash (I wasn't a huge fan of this. Next time I will substitute Pink Lemonade Crystal Light instead)
-Dark pink: Sobe Strawberry Daiquiri
*I also added some clear Lemonade Vitamin Water to the bottom, but since it is only a few grams different in sugar content to the Sobe, you can't see that layer. It was really yummy mixed with the other two drinks, so I will use it again next time, but you can omit it if you want.
Fill clear glasses up to the brim with ice. Pour the drink with the most sugar into the ice as your bottom layer (I did Lemonade Vitamin Water first). Fill cup up about a third of the way.
Very slowly pour the drink with the medium amount of sugar (Sobe Strawberry Daiquiri) onto the ice to cover the first layer. It is tempting to start pouring slowly and end by dumping it in really fast. Resist the temptation! It's okay to stop and let the layer settle a little before pouring in the rest. Be sure you are pouring DIRECTLY on to ice (the more ice, the better). I also think the layers stay intact best if you pour from a small cup and not from a big heavy jug or container. *Note: If you are using the Vitamin Water it *will* run into the Daiquiri. Don't worry. Your next layer will be much better.
Once you have done your second layer you may need to add more ice to your cup. Repeat the pouring process with your last drink (Pink Lemonade Crystal Light) until you've reached the brim of your cup. Remember to go slow and pour directly onto the ice.
Serve and enjoy!
In the area we live in baseball hats and the different ways they are worn are associated with gangs. No one is allowed to wear them to eliminate any misunderstandings about who is associated with a gang and unintentional gang slurs. Unfortunately this culture is not age specific
ReplyDeleteHa, believe me. You don't want a hat within 50 feet of school. They come home germy and filled with itchy things. ;) Love the drinks!!
ReplyDeleteHaha, dorothy- you would bring up lice!
