(Wait till my husband finds out I'm making this and hanging it on our front door for a month. I'll be sure to take a picture of his face and put a caption on it that says "The cat peed WHERE? " before slapping it on pinterest.)
Anyways- back to girly Valentines things like these mallows. You can make them in any shape you want using teensy tiny cookie cutters. Fondant cookie cutters work great for this (look in the cake decorating section). My hobby lobby also has some small holiday themed sets by the modeling clay.
(Bizzar-o, I know... Doesn't anybody have the guts to tell the Hob Lob that modeling clay is inedible? Suddenly the fact that I use the same coupon every single day and never get questioned or imprisoned makes soo much sense.)
PS- I finally finished my Chocolate Dipping Tips tab. Check it out and let me know what you think. A video might be coming someday. I just have to check with Reese first to see if she could play the part of me while I whisper instructions from the sidelines.
(And by Reese, yes, I mean Witherspoon. She's not quite as hot as me, but I guess she'll do.)
Have a happy Tuesday!
Chocolate-Dipped Heart Mallows
-XL campfire marshmallows (Target usually has them)
-Candy melts in white, pink, red, or brown
-Sprinkles or non-pareils
Cut each mallow in half through the cylindrical middle. (Oh yeah... I did just say that.)
Place the halves sticky-side down onto a Silpat or piece of parchment paper. Cut a heart out of each piece using your cookie cutter. (You may have to clean your cutter off several times with hot water while doing this when it starts to get sticky).
Melt your chocolate in a small shallow bowl at 50% power for 1 1/2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Use a candy fork to dip each mallow into the chocolate, pull straight back out, and tap the side of the fork gently on the rim of your bowl to get a smooth top.
If desired, throw right into a bowl of non-pareils or sprinkles, turning until evenly coated.
Then place on sheet and allow to set.
Otherwise, allow dipped-heart to dry on parchment/Silpat sheet. Once completely set, you can drizzle melted chocolate on if desired.
When you become famous and they make a movie about your cute self and your cute blog, Reese will be begging to play you!
ReplyDeleteThese marshmallows are cute. Good thing my boys don't know you and all your tasty treats, or they'd be jealous that their mom's not as cool!
Cute! I like decorating for v-day too. Just did it this week. I saw heart shaped marshmallows @ Walmart. They were super cute. I didn't think of dipping them in chocolate, what a great idea. I just knew I wanted to buy them but wasn't sure what I would do with them once purchased. Problem solved :).
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! What a cute idea!! I never would have thought to cut the campfire marshmallows...Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, if I was your neighbor I would totally sneak you treats and you could pretend to your kids that you made them. We could probably barter baking skills for sewing skills, cause I have none of those.
