Butterbeer

I'm kind of a Harry Potter freak.  Actually a major Harry Potter freak.  Let's face it.  I'm basically a 12 year old living an adult life. I make my husband take me to the dentist. I call him to come home from work to kill spiders for me. I still buy clothes from the children's section and I wear them. I laugh inopportunely in awkward situations and I still use my index finger & thumb to tell my right from my left.

So, the thought of Butterbeer... kind of makes me giddy.   Last year, I heard they sell it in Harry Potter Land at Islands of Adventure. I'm not even going to go into how our trip to Florida missed the grand opening by exactly 2 days.  It still hurts. Since we couldn't have the real thing, I found a recipe and made my own for our Harry Potter 7 DVD release party.

It was the typical cream soda + butterscotch syrup, and it was alright.  But it doesn't hold a candle to this.  Sheer genius I swear.

It's fast.  It's not difficult, and it's totally delicious. It tastes exactly like you'd think it would.  Check out the ingredients list.

Accio Butterbeer!
I'm a nerd, I know.

Butterbeer
Recipe from CherryTeaCakes

-1 cup Werther's Originals hard candies
-1 cup water
-Chilled club soda or soda water

In a pot over medium heat, boil together your candies and water until completely dissolved, stirring constantly. Allow the syrup to cool, stirring frequently.

Combine 1 part caramel syrup to 2 parts club soda. (Be sure to measure your caramel syrup; don't assume it is still 2 cups.  I think mine had boiled down to about 1 1/2 cups, so I used 3 cups club soda.)

Shake to combine and serve immediately. (This will keep several days in the fridge, but will lose fizz quickly as it is not heavily carbonated to begin with.)

Cheers!

  2. I love harry potter too. I have been wanting to see the newest one, but the BF won't go until he watches all the previous movies... bugger. I will have to try your butterbeer recipe, I wasn't a huge fan of the caramel sauce + cream soda. A tad too sweet for me! Thanks for stopping by BFB!

  6. I LOVE your site! Tried the butterbeer tonight (we are big Harry Potter fans too)! : ) I am planning on making the Cotton Candy Cupcakes for my daughter's 4th birthday. Have you ever heard of eating Chocolate Gravy with Biscuits for breakfast? My husband's family have been fixing it for generations and I love carrying on the tradition. We have it at least once a week!

  7. I'm a HP fanatic too! We also barely missed the park's opening (by a couple months, though, not a couple days...when we bought tickets, it was SUPPOSED to be open by then). Lame! This sounds delicious. I'm seriously loving your blog! I think I've re-pinned just about everything...
